Togo is a narrow country in West Africa, bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east, and Burkina Faso to the north, with a coastline along the Gulf of Guinea to the south. Its capital city is Lomé. Togo’s economy is based on agriculture, trade, and phosphate mining. The country has a mix of cultures and ethnic groups, with French as the official language. Despite its small size, Togo features diverse landscapes, including coastal plains, hills, and savannas.

The digital approach, using platforms like WhatsApp and encrypted apps, allows the Gospel to reach these communities safely and privately. With 85% mobile penetration and a youthful population, Togo’s linguistic diversity calls for deeply contextualized, community-driven digital outreach in Ewe, Kabiyé, and Tem.

Data-Driven Accountability

A digital dashboard tracks key metrics across all channels in real time — gospel exposures, decisions for Christ, and follow-up figures. Quarterly reviews drive continuous improvement, and ten short plus two documentary-style testimony videos are produced annually. The national CCC office provides oversight and alignment with national strategy. Language-specific engagement is tracked separately across Ewe, Kabiyé, and Tem to measure contextualization effectiveness.

Kossi Agbénou

20 · Kara Region · Youth Digital Missionary Trainee

Kossi grew up in a family practicing traditional Vodou rituals in northern Togo, where the church felt irrelevant and distant. A short video in Kabiyé appeared in his TikTok feed — a young man from a village not unlike his own, speaking plainly about forgiveness and a God who draws near. "It was not about a religion," Kossi recalled. "It was about something I had been looking for but had no name for." He joined a WhatsApp discovery group, where a trained digital missionary walked him through Bible stories in Kabiyé over six weeks. Kossi made a decision for Christ and enrolled in missionary training the following month. "I never thought faith could feel this close," he said. "Like it was already inside the language I grew up speaking."

"The light came in through my phone screen. It filled something in me I didn't know was empty." Today, Kossi leads a youth media team producing evangelism content in Kabiyé for the Kara region.
