Know South Sudan

South Sudan is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa, bordered by Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The capital city is Juba. South Sudan became independent from Sudan in 2011, making it the world’s newest internationally recognized country.

The country has a diverse population with many ethnic groups and languages, while English is the official language. Christianity and traditional African religions are widely practiced.

South Sudan’s economy depends heavily on oil production, which is its main source of revenue. Agriculture and livestock farming are also important for many communities.

Since independence, the country has faced major challenges including political conflict, ethnic violence, humanitarian crises, and economic difficulties. Peace agreements and rebuilding efforts have continued over the years.

Overall, South Sudan is known for its recent independence, rich oil resources, cultural diversity, and ongoing efforts toward peace and development.

MISSIONAL VISION
Bringing Hope to a Nation Still Healing

South Sudan, a nation plagued by decades of conflict, has a massive population of internally displaced people and refugees. While the nation has a Christian majority, ongoing insecurity and ethnic conflict have created a significant loophole for traditional missions, which often struggles to provide safe and continuous discipleship to vulnerable populations.

The digital approach — using platforms like WhatsApp and encrypted apps — allows us to build relationships and share the Gospel safely. The project distributes 150 gospel audio players in Juba, Bor, and Bentiu and trains 200 youth to create reconciliation-based gospel content. This is a fulfillment of: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me… to bind up the brokenhearted” (Isaiah 61:1).

Priority target groups: Displaced & refugee youth with no Christian media access · Women traumatised by violence · Unreached ethnic groups in Jonglei, Unity & Upper Nile · IDP camp communities

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me… to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives.” — Isaiah 61:1 NIV

Data-Driven Accountability

A digital dashboard tracks all key metrics: gospel exposures, decisions for Christ, and people in follow-up. Quarterly reviews drive continuous improvement. Ten short plus two documentary-style testimony videos are produced annually. The national CCC office provides oversight and alignment with national strategies.

Rebecca Nyandeng
23 · IDP Camp Resident, Juba · Digital Missionary
Rebecca fled her village in Unity State after violence destroyed her community. In the displacement camp, she received an SD card loaded with gospel audio content in Nuer — a language she had not heard in media before. She listened to the content on a solar audio player every evening for a week. A female digital mentor connected with her through a secure WhatsApp group and walked with her through grief and loss using trauma-informed devotionals. Rebecca came to faith and began leading a listening circle for other women in the camp.
“I came to Juba with nothing. The audio player gave me something I had no words for — hope. Not the hope that things get better, but the hope that God already knows where I am.”
