Know Somalia

Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti, with a long coastline along the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.

The capital city is Mogadishu. Somalia has one of the longest coastlines in Africa and has historically been important for trade because of its strategic location.

The population is mainly Somali, sharing a common language, culture, and Islamic faith. Somali and Arabic are official languages.

The economy is based on livestock, agriculture, fishing, trade, and remittances from Somalis living abroad. However, the country has faced decades of conflict, political instability, drought, and humanitarian challenges since the collapse of the central government in 1991.

Despite these difficulties, Somalia has been working toward rebuilding its institutions and improving security and economic development in recent years.

Overall, Somalia is known for its strategic coastal location, shared cultural identity, and ongoing efforts toward recovery and stability.

MISSIONAL VISION
Reaching Somalia’s Unreached

Somalia is one of the most extreme mission frontiers on Earth. With 99.9% of the population Muslim, virtually no indigenous Christian witness, ongoing conflict, and a government that does not recognise Christianity as a legal religion, physical ministry is nearly impossible. Apostasy from Islam carries severe social and sometimes physical consequences. And yet: 10.7 million Somalis are online, and a median age of 15.6 means the majority of the country is young, searching, and consuming digital content daily.

The ADD strategy operates with maximum discretion — encrypted WhatsApp outreach, covert audio kit distribution, Somali and Arabic content produced outside the country, and a highly trained team of diaspora and local missionaries working through trusted peer networks.

Priority target groups: The unreached Muslim majority · Youth open to new ideas with no access to the Gospel · Women and girls with restricted media access and literacy

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5 NIV

Data-Driven Accountability

All data collection uses maximum encryption and security protocols. Missionaries are trained in counter-surveillance and operational security. Gospel exposures, decisions for Christ, and follow-up contacts are tracked through a secure, anonymised dashboard. Ten short plus two documentary-style testimony videos are produced annually, all with identities fully protected. National CCC oversight is maintained through diaspora channels.

Faadumo’s name has been changed and her location is not disclosed for her safety. She grew up in a family where the Quran was memorised before the alphabet was taught. A solar audio kit arrived through a community health worker she trusted. The Somali-language story she heard described a woman asking the same questions about God that Faadumo had carried since childhood but never dared to speak aloud. “I thought I was the only person who thought that way,” she says through an intermediary. Over eight months of encrypted voice notes and Somali Bible stories, she placed her faith in Christ. She has told no one. “My faith lives in my heart right now,” she says. “That is where it is safe.”
“I asked God to show me if He was real. He answered through my phone, in my language, in my voice. I know what I heard.” Faadumo participates in a highly secure digital fellowship. Her story is shared with permission and with all identifying details changed.
