Missional Vision

Deepening Faith in the Indian Ocean

La Reunion, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, presents a unique missional challenge. While a significant majority identifies as Christian, many are “cultural Christians” who lack a personal, active faith. The island’s growing Muslim and Hindu communities also represent significant missional opportunities.

As one Christian leader stated: “We have been great at bringing people into the church but neglect the priority of developing and maturing people in their faith.” This project addresses this by creating culturally relevant digital content in Reunion Creole and French, meeting people where they are — on their smartphones.

Priority target groups:

  • Cultural Christians with no active discipleship
  • Young adults in urban hubs
  • Muslim & Hindu minority communities
  • Digitally-native generation

"Go and make disciples of all nations." — Matthew 28:19 NIV

Marie-Claire Fontaine
26 · Young Professional, Saint-Denis · Digital Missionary
Marie-Claire was baptised Catholic, raised in a churchgoing family, and by her mid-twenties considered herself “spiritual but not really practising.” A short podcast episode in Reunion Creole — produced locally, featuring voices she recognised — asked her the one question she had been quietly ignoring: “Is your faith something you inherited, or something you chose?” She downloaded the ADD devotional app the following morning. Over three months of WhatsApp conversations with a digital mentor, Marie-Claire made a personal commitment to Christ and began leading a digital small group.
“Nobody had ever spoken to me about Jesus in Creole. When they did, it felt like the message finally had my address.” Marie-Claire now mentors three younger women in a digital discipleship circle.
