A Digital Revival in the Atlantic Heart — Nguema: A Digital Revival in the Atlantic Heart

Know Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea is a small country in Central Africa made up of a mainland region and several islands in the Gulf of Guinea. It is bordered by Cameroon and Gabon. The capital city is Malabo, located on Bioko Island, while Ciudad de la Paz is being developed as a future administrative capital.Equatorial Guinea gained independence from Spain in 1968 and is one of the few African countries where Spanish is an official language. French and Portuguese are also official languages. The country’s economy is heavily dependent on oil and gas production, which has made it one of Africa’s higher-income countries by GDP per capita. However, wealth distribution remains uneven, and many people still face poverty and limited access to services. The population is made up of several ethnic groups, mainly the Fang and Bubi peoples. The country is also known for its tropical forests and biodiversity.Overall, Equatorial Guinea is recognized for its oil wealth, Spanish-speaking heritage, and island-mainland geography in Central Africa.

Digital Revival for the Next Generation

Equatorial Guinea has a high percentage of “cultural Christians” who identify with the faith but lack active, personal discipleship. Traditional ministry often fails to engage the digitally-savvy urban population, which is frequently skeptical of formal religious institutions. Youth and young professionals are the greatest missional gap.

By producing 60 short films in Fang and Spanish using local actors, and launching 40 WhatsApp discipleship groups, we can meet young people on their own terms. The project also targets the Muslim minority through contextualized WhatsApp series about Isa (Jesus) in Arabic and Spanish.

Priority target groups:

  • Unchurched youth & young professionals
  • Women in rural communities
  • Muslim minority populations
  • Cultural Christians lacking discipleship

"I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some of them." — 1 Corinthians 9:22 NIV

Data-Driven Accountability

A digital dashboard tracks all key metrics: gospel exposures, decisions for Christ, and people in follow-up. Quarterly reviews drive continuous improvement. Ten short plus two documentary-style testimony videos are produced annually. The national CCC office provides oversight and alignment with national strategies.

Clara Mba Nguema
23 · Young Professional, Malabo · Digital Missionary
Clara was raised in the church but drifted away during university. Faith felt institutional and distant from her daily reality as a young professional. A short film in Fang — shot locally, with actors she recognised from her neighbourhood — showed a young woman wrestling with the same questions Clara had quietly held for years. She joined a WhatsApp discipleship group that same week. Six months later, she recommitted her life to Christ and has since become one of the project's most active digital missionaries.
“The film was in Fang, with people who looked like me. For the first time, faith felt like it was actually for me.” Clara now leads a weekly digital discipleship group for young women in Malabo.
