Reviving Faith in the Atlantic Islands

Cape Verde has a high percentage of “cultural Christians” who identify with the faith but lack active, personal discipleship. The digitally-native generation — young adults in Praia, Mindelo, and diaspora-linked households — is increasingly disconnected from formal church structures and spiritually apathetic.

The ADD approach meets young people where they are through YouTube, Instagram, and podcasts in Portuguese and Creole — creating a new, engaging pathway to encounter the Gospel. As Paul wrote: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some of them” (1 Cor. 9:22).

Priority target groups:

  • Young adults in Praia & Mindelo
  • Cultural Christians lacking active discipleship
  • Diaspora-linked households
  • Portuguese-speaking seekers via social media

"I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some of them." — 1 Corinthians 9:22 NIV

Tomas Evora
24 · Graduate Student, Praia · Digital Missionary
Tomas was baptised as a baby and considered himself Christian — but faith was background noise, not living truth. A YouTube short in Cape Verdean Creole asked a question he had never considered: “What would it mean if Jesus was actually real today?” He joined a WhatsApp Bible study group the same evening. Four months later, he gave his life to Christ in a digital fellowship on a video call with six other young Cape Verdeans. He now leads a weekly podcast for the diaspora.
“I always thought faith was something you inherited, not something you chose. The Creole video helped me hear the Gospel as if for the first time.” Tomas is one of 75 digital missionaries trained across Cape Verde's four university campuses.
